another shot at their arch rivals, The Falconer Junior Falcons.
10/16/2010: Southwestern vs Dunkirk
The Southwestern Spartans JV beat the undefeated Dunkirk Marauders 14-13.
Dunkirk's
Christopher Williams found the end zone early in the 1st to give Dunkirk the lead but
it was SW's Luke Heil impressed the fans with his 80 yard run and then caught the great
2pt conversion pass from Derek Miller right before the half to give SW the lead.
The second half brought lots of defensive action from both sides. Jaden Correa led the
defensive effort for Dunkirk while Vinny Certo (10 tackles, 1 fumble recovery) and Drew
Shilling (10 tackles) led SW's Defense. Jake Valava dished out negative yardage again
with his 6 tackles in the Marauder backfield. Dominic Certo showed his quickness by
adding 3 tackles, 1 sack and caused a fumble while SW's defensive backs Justin Morris
and Michael Walker each had touchdown saving tackles.
Running back Brian Burns increased SW's lead when he powered up the gut for a 39 yard
TD run. With 13 seconds left in the game, Dunkirk's Christopher Williams found pay
dirt again but SW's powerful defense proved to be too much and would not allow a 2pt
conversion thus advancing the Southwestern Spartans to the 2010 JAMFL Championship Game
this Saturday against The West Side Panthers at 12 noon at SWCS.
